On Walkabout Blue by Karen Taylor

This artwork represents when Aboriginal tribes ran out of bush tucker on their land, they would go walkabout to another area of their country where there was bush tucker. They would walk days, sometimes weeks, camping along the way which the painting shows. They would only stay in their own country, never walking onto other Aboriginal tribes land.

Ready to Witness Our Vows

I fulfilled a long-held wish, cruising around Australia with a friend. I so appreciated the Aboriginal art we saw and first purchased a scarf for myself—On Walkabout Blue by Karen Taylor. The colors reminded me of my seaside home in South Carolina. The footprints and story behind the pattern—of journeying forward to find new and necessary resources for life—reminded me of a path I’m sharing with the man I will marry later this year. When I realized Bulurru had the pattern in a tie, i determined to take one home to my love. I couldn’t find such a tie for sale in a store, but I could order one online. The tie On Walkabout Blue and I arrived back in the U.S. at almost the same time. We now plan to wear our matching apparel when we speak our vows on the beach later this summer. We are both moved by the art and stories of distant friends—inspired as we begin our marriage Walkabout. Thank you for sharing a unique way for our wedding garb to speak to us as we speak vows to each other.
